Tonight we finally put up our Christmas Tree. Carson had a fun time playing with all of the ornaments and the train.

Thanksgiving
On Thanksgiving, this is what I'm thankful for:
I am thankful for such a wonderful husband who is so concerned and so loving.
I don't know what I'd do without him. Its is very reassuring to know that we have each other forever and that we came into our marriage without any past regrets. I am thankful for his strong testimony and his commitment to do what is right.
I am so thankful to be a mother. I can't imagine life without my sweet little boy. He makes my day and I am so excited to be able to stay home with him in a few weeks. I am also thankful that we are going to be welcoming another choice spirit into our home.
I am thankful for a wonderful mother who has sacrificed so much to help me get an education. She truly is an angel. I am thankful for her example to me of selfless giving.
I am thankful for the gospel. I am thankful that I was so blessed to be baptized and set my life on a steady upward course. I honestly don't know where I would have ended up without the gospel and everyday I feel so blessed to have the solid reassurance of who I am and where I am going.

12 Weeks
On Saturday we went in for our 12 week appointment. It took forever for them to find a vein to draw blood. I found this amazing since last May they were taking my blood every two days to do the quantitative HCG tests on the miscarriage. I don't know what it is about the band aids at the doc's office, but they make me break out in a rash. My arm was all red and nasty looking today. It even ripped a piece of skin off when I tore off the band aid!
When Doctor Crouch finally got in to see me, he tried to find the heartbeat with the Doppler. He couldn't find it. I was sick to my stomach and worried about another miscarriage. He took me into another room to do an ultrasound. Luckily the baby was moving around and we could see the heart beating. It turned out to be an awesome experience to get to see the baby again. It is looking more like an actual baby and was wiggling its little arms and legs. Needless to to say I was so relieved.

6 Facts About Me
I've Been Tagged!
The Rules: Player lists 6 facts/habits about themselves. At the end of the post, player then tags 6 people and posts their names. Then player goes to their blog and posts a comment telling them that they have been tagged and asking them to read player's blog for rules.
Facts
1) On Thursday, I will be 12 weeks pregnant! We will have made it through the first trimester and each day I grow more excited that the baby will be okay.
2) The cravings have started to come. Last night I was craving licorice and banana peppers. Jeff thought I was nuts, but at the time the combination sounded so good! We went to Wal Mart and got the licorice, but not the banana peppers. I must admit, I LOVE spicy food when I am pregnant...by the way, I haven't gained any weight yet!
3) I have nine days left of teaching! The rest of the days are teacher inservice and parent teacher conferences, not to mention Thanksgiving break. I am getting a little sad to leave because I really have enjoyed working with my cooperating teacher and the students. I have a second hour full of boys that remind me so much of Jeff and my cousins. Its hard not to joke around with them too much. One of the boys reminds me a lot of my cousin Brad.
4) I am an education freak! It really makes me mad when I see people wasting their lives and not going to school. There is always a reason NOT to, and it seems so attractive to be done with school and just work. School is tough, but you can take your education with you, I am afraid all the new clothes and new cars don't matter in the end. It is so sad to see some of my students and the choices they are making. It is even harder to try to be positive about education without forcing it on them. They don't understand that, yes, even though school is tough, it is SOOOOO worth it. Ah, wait until their pre-frontal cortex matures when they are 21, and then they will see what they've done to their life! We are raising a generation of people who want to take the easy way out. Instant gratification--it's not worth it!!
5) I believe in the power of strong families. That is why Jeff and I have tried so hard to set goals for our family, and this year we have accomplished a lot of them! Last week I taught my 9th graders about families. It was so hard for me to leave the gospel out of it. You can see how they are so upset about what has happened to them in their families. Almost half of the students in my class come from divorced families, and they are usually bitter about it. I want to tell them that in the end, being bitter will only turn them in to what they hate--believe me, I've seen it happen. It is heartbreaking when you see someone become what they hated the most. That is why the Atonement is so important.
6) I am obsessed with The Office. Every Thursday at 8:00 our TV is on, one of the few times we turn it on during the week. I love the humor and the mocumentary style of the show.
Since I don't know six more people who blog, some of you can do it on your myspace page or email. Better yet, get blogging!! Here's who I'm tagging: Megan, Maggie, Alisha, Kris, Val, Maria

"Where did Mrs. Birch go?"
Whew! This last week has been one of the hardest for me in a long time. Between going to bed @ 1:00 AM and getting back up at 6:00 AM, getting to early morning faculty meetings, staying late to run concessions for FCCLA at the basketball games, and trying to celebrate Halloween...I am pooped! Halloween was especially challenging because in my four food labs, we decided to cook on Halloween. Try teaching over 100 teenagers to make popcorn balls and dirt cups and that is enough to wear anyone out. Oh yeah, and Carson was sick this week with Pink Eye and some sort of head cold. We were supposed to go to the temple this morning with our ward, but Carson was up all night coughing and sick, so of course we were tired and didn't want to leave him with a babysitter. Finally, at 7:00 this morning, I found some prescription cough medicine from when he had a cold earlier this year. I gave it to him and it knocked him out until 11:00.
I really shouldn't complain about being pregnant because I haven't even thrown up yet and I am almost 11 weeks. Although that doesn't mean I haven't been sick. I had to sit out one of my labs two weeks ago because I was in the storeroom at the back of our classroom dry heaving into the sink. I kept hearing my students say, "Where did Mrs. Birch go?" My cooperating teacher just told them that I wasn't feeling well. This week I had to run out of my second hour class because I was so sure that I was going to puke. Of course by the time I got to the bathroom, I knew that I wouldn't be throwing up. I always seem to get sick in second hour. I have been waking up every morning feeling like I have run a marathon. My hips ache so bad. It seems like everyone I have talked to has said that their second pregnancy was so different; I can't say the same thing. I feel just like I did with Carson. The only difference has been that I found out that I was pregnant later with this one.
Sometimes I feel like I can't do it all. But I only have four more weeks of Student Teaching so the end is in sight! I really dropped the ball this week, especially with my responsibilities in the Relief Society Presidency (sorry Shannon). It just gives me an opportunity to strive harder and to be better--do more! I love having a full life, I know that once Student Teaching is done I am going to be so depressed because I am not out there doing something. It is definately going to be a big change to stay at home with Carson, but it is where I want to be.

Halloween Carnival
Whew! What a busy weekend we had. Friday night we went to a Halloween Carnival at Burton Elementary with the Milners. Shannon teaches at the school and invited us to come. Carson had so much fun playing at the carnival. He played Plinko, got his face painted so he looked like Harry Potter, and went "fishing" for candy. He loved the fishing booth and didn't want to leave. He collected enough tickets that he was able to redeem them for a plastic sword. After the carnival we went to Wal-Mart and shopped for costumes. Then we went over to Matt and Shannon's and watched Transformers, a movie Jeff had been wanting to see for a long time.
Carson got to go fishing again. This time he won a bag of candy and a glow stick. Here he is with Jeff.(Marshall is in the background, he was helping Chandler fish.)
I finished up the night with a huge stomach ache from the caramel apple. Here is all of us together just before we left.
After the Carnival we went over to Marshall and Tiffany's and watched Evan Almighty. It made two late nights out, but we wouldn't have it any other way. Its nice to have friends to do things with. It beats sitting at home wondering what to do!
Saturday was also very busy for us. I spent part of the day making Jeff's costume. We had decided that I was going to go as a devil and Jeff was going to go as an angel. We didn't want Jeff to look like a girly angel so we decided to skip the wings and halo and instead he ended up looking like some Old Testament prophet. We went to our ward carnival last night. Carson finally got to wear his Firefighter costume. The only problem was that he refused to wear his hat and he ended up wanting the coat taken off. We had a lot of fun. I made Jeff bob for apples so I could have a caramel apple. It took him for ever but he finally got it. In this picture, the kid is not Carson. It is some boy from our ward who was having fun watching Jeff.

Our Big News!
Carson is going to be a big brother!
We are excited to announce the new addition to our family. Our new baby is due May 29, 2008. We went in for our first doctors appointment yesterday. Dr. Barton said that the baby is two-thirds inch long and has a very strong heart beat. I must admit that I was very nervous for the ultrasound after having an ultrasound in May just to find out that the baby didn't have a heartbeat. Carson was excited because we had told him that we were going to go see the new baby on the "TV screen". He insists that he is having a brother and that he is going to name him Mack. I'm not so sure on the name. We are all just hoping for a healthy child. If it is another boy we have no idea what to name him. I used up my only boy name on Carson. I do however, like the name Mathew, but we'll have to wait and see. We do have a girls name picked out but Jeff doesn't want to tell anyone about it yet. I think it is another boy, Mom thinks it is a girl (she was right guessing about Carson and Abbie, so who knows), and Dad thinks it is a girl too. Jeff doesn't have an opinion. When I asked him last night about it, he said he was still trying to get used to the idea of having two children. But then he added, "Could you imagine two Carson's, we'd go crazy!" I agree with him!

We are almost nine weeks into this pregnancy. Once we hit the twelve week mark I think I'll be less nervous. Everyday I worry that a miscarriage might happen again. However, this pregnancy has been completely different from the miscarriage and we haven't had any problems yet. We feel very blessed to have gotten pregnant again so quickly after the miscarriage. We know that we have been watched out for and that we can't always do things on our own timing.
