Life is Good
Some days I wake up thinking I have such a charmed life. I mean, there really is nothing I would rather be doing than waking up in my own beautiful home to my three handsome little boys and a wonderful husband. I am loving this stage of my life. I love that I get to hang out with these little guys all day.
I love that we get to take the cushions off of the couch and make forts and play around.
I love working with Carson on his reading and writing. He is getting very good at recognizing a lot of site words and is getting better everyday with his writing.
I love that Jonas is taking an interest in using the potty. His favorite book right now is one I used to help train Carson. Several times a day he will run to the bathroom door and yell, "Go pee-pee!" We haven't had any success yet, but he is getting into the habit of getting all of his clothes off and standing on the little step stool waiting for something to happen. Sometimes its frustrating when he wants to go 2 or 3 times an hour, but I am not going to let this opportunity pass by because I am too lazy to go help him...so hopefully soon we will have our first successful trip to the potty. I am so proud of that little man, especially since he isn't two for another few months.
And my little Mason man...well actually not so little if you've seen him lately. I call him my little "chubba-bubba" because he is so stinking rolly-polly. He is wanting to nurse almost every 1 1/2 to 2 hours...and I know that he is getting tons of milk. So tonight I tried some rice cereal, hoping that it would help him sleep better. Lets just say he wasn't that impressed with it and screamed until I nursed him. Ahhhh, hopefully soon he will discover the joys of solid foods.
Yep, I'd have to say life is pretty much good right now. And for that, I am so very, very grateful.

Baby
Meet Baby.
He is Carson's most favorite stuffed animal. Baby goes almost everywhere with us, and is getting a little worn out with love. Tonight I finished sewing baby back together for about the tenth time. Baby is special to our family it more than one way, so I guess I should journal the story of how Baby came to live with us.
In May it will have been 3 years since I had my miscarriage. One night, a few weeks after I found out I was pregnant, I started bleeding very heavily. It was late and of course the OB's office was closed so we headed up to the hospital. I'm not sure why now, I guess I was hoping that there was something they could do to make it stop.
Anyways, we took Carson with us. The nurse that was helping us out that night had been a friend of Jeff's mom and he got Carson a toy from the stash they usually give to children coming in on the ambulance. When he brought the toy in, my first thought was that it was obviously handmade by someone. In my mind I imagined some little old lady making it and donating it hoping it would make some child happy. While we were at the hospital, Jeff was trying to explain to Carson that Mommy's baby was sick and might die. Carson wasn't quite two yet and kept repeating, "baby, baby, baby sick". So, somehow, he got confused and started calling the toy "Baby".
To Carson, Baby is a beloved playmate. To me, Baby is the only tangible reminder of the child I lost.

Can't Catch a Break
Have you ever had one of those times in your life where you feel like you just can't catch a break? I remember last Fall, proudly boasting that my kids never get sick. I think the Lord has ways of humbling you and helping you to develop empathy for others. Its only March and we've already gone through half of our medical flex spending account. It seems like its one thing after another with someone in our family. This weekend we all came down with something nasty. All the boys just had coughs and runny noses, but I was the lucky one who also got a sore throat, fever with sweats and chills, and an achy body (of course the achy body might have more to do with my new workout than anything else!) It just hasn't been our year for staying healthy, and I'm pretty sure that we are close to being put on the inactive list at church. In all of our married life, we've never missed church so much as we have the past two months!
On a different note, Carson spent the night at his cousins' house Friday night and so Jeff and I were left with just these two little guys.
It was amazing how much quieter it was, but we sure did miss our rambunctious little 4 year old. He spent the night with his cousins' because Saturday morning Grandpa Larry took the boys to Disney on Ice.

Carson was super excited to see these guys....

and especially this guy.
I was not so excited, however, to find that my camera (that I sent with them) came back broken. It will still take pictures (which I am very thankful for), but I can't zoom, change settings, or review my pictures. Arghhh, like I said, we just can't catch a break...

The good news is that we get to go to Idaho on Friday. We haven't been home in almost six months!

Change
Does anyone else have boxes and boxes of their kids old clothes?? My basement has about 5 or 6 tubs full of little boy clothes. Yesterday we went "shopping" in our basement and pulled out "new" clothes for both Mason and Jonas. It was time I stopped stretching the 0-3 month clothes to try to fit my 80th percentile 3 month old...and time I bumped Jonas up into the 24 month/2T stuff.
Today I'm excited to dress my boys in their "new" clothes. I was happy to note that many of the clothes are still in excellent shape, so I literally feel like they are getting a new wardrobe. After taking stock of all that I have, I will only have to buy a few things to make their wardrobes complete....some khaki church pants for Jonas and some pajamas for Mason. Its such a blessing that I invested in some good qualilty clothes that are able to go through 3 boys and still look nice.
Its funny how opening up a box of old clothes can bring back so many memories. Most of the 3-6 month clothes are the clothes Jonas was wearing when we moved to Utah...I seriously feel like I just packed up those clothes! And the new clothes I pulled out for Jonas, are the clothes that Carson was wearing the summer before I went to go student teach...and when I got pregnant with Jonas.
Anyways, I guess I'm saying that I can't believe how quickly they grow up! I mean it feels like yesterday Jonas was wearing this...
...and now Mason is in it. Just can't believe it.

Boy of 1,000 Questions
I think I've given birth to a genius. Well, actually three of them, but the oldest one is starting to show me just how smart he is. Or curious. This kid LOVES science. I'm not kidding. We were in Hobby Lobby the other day and he goes straight to the aisle that has all the little science project kits and starts begging for one that I know is way over his head.
Monday I found him in the bathroom, the sink full of water, and him dropping various items into the water. A simple, "I was trying to see which things floated and which sunk" answered my questioning look.
Anyways, my days are filled with this kid constantly peppering me with questions. He wants to know how everything works...and he doesn't want a simplified answer. He wants to know the details. A few days ago we were watching TV and they said something about cancer. That launched us into this huge discussion on it and how the cells in our body can sometimes grow wrong. When I thought we were done I hear him ask me, "But why? Why do the cells grow wrong, what causes them to do that?" So then we talked about carcinogens and then he says, "But why?" This kid wants an explanation that only a doctor could give. A lot of the times I can't give him the answers he wants and so we go online and look for them. The other day he wanted to know how crayons are made so we found a video that explained it.
Somedays I wish I knew the answers to questions like "What holds the clouds up in the sky?". But for now I am keeping very busy looking up answers to some very intriguing questions!

Spring Fever
Living in Utah has its pros and cons. One of those pros being that we have milder winters than Southeast Idaho. Our snow melted a few weeks ago and the forecast for this week is for sun and it the lower 50's. You know what that means...spring fever!
This year is different from other years because we finally have a yard to go work in. Over the past month and a half Jeff has been outside taking measurements so he can get doing our landscape. You see, we have and HOA, and if we don't get our yard done on time we get a $50 a day fine until it is in. That means our tax return will probably be going to our yard. So, Jeff has started drawing up our landscape design because we have to submit it to our HOA for approval. {By the way, can I tell you how much we HATE HATE HATE having an HOA...its just another form of communism.} Anyways, here is the start of his plan...he'll probably not like me posting it because it isn't finished.
And here is the before shot of our backyard.
This is the sandbox area we started working on last fall. The boys climbing dome (that they got for Christmas) is going to go in it...that way they have something soft to fall on!
