Discouraged

It seems like this year just hasn't been our year for good health. Since February, there has constantly been someone in our family on antibiotics. Mason is currentsly the one on an antibiotic because of a cold that spread to his eyes and also gave him an ear infection. The nurses at the pediatrician's office know us by name now...and I don't think that's a good thing. Jeff, thankfully, has FINALLY gotten over a sinus infection that lasted 6 weeks.

And then there is me. I've been to the doctor several times in the past few months with all sorts of different ailments. I seriously feel like I am falling apart! As soon as one thing starts to feel better, something else will start hurting. Sometimes I think it must all be in my head because it seems impossible that I could really be this sickly at 25.

So I'm up again tonight in pain. I've decided something has gotta give, because this isn't the way to live life. I'm done, I'm ready to be healthy again. One big, obvious thing I need to do is to shed all those extra baby pounds. Sometimes it seems so overwhelming at how far I have to go. Does anyone have any advice or encouragement?? Especially encouragement because at this point I feel so very, very discouraged. I know what I need to do: eat healthy and exercise more, but I think I've gotten to the point where I am so discouraged that a part of me thinks "What's the point, I'm never going to be the skinny girl." Sometimes I wonder if it really can be done...can I really overcome genetics and bad habits and become the person I want to be? Please somebody out there tell me that I can.

First: Being sick, or having sick kids is the HARDEST thing to deal with, and I admire you for your strength.

Second: I had 70 pounds to be in a normal weight range for my height. 85 if I wanted to be "skinny" again. I was also very overwhelmed by that. It took what seemed like forever, but I lost 30 lbs, just from changing the way I ate. I'm still really bad at being motivated to exercise, but you've got to just start somewhere. I'd wait until things are less chaotic, if that's possible, because you need to start with realistic things you can accomplish.

I think you're amazing, and I know you can do it.

it's so hard to move from being discouraged to being motivated! I would forget about how far you have to go and all the weight you would like to lose and just start out with a super small goal, like 5 pounds. When you lose the first 5 pounds, focus on the next 5 pounds, etc... After I had Sam, it seemed like it took forever to lose the baby weight.(Remember, we share some of the same genes!) I finally broke down and did Weight Watchers online (I didn't go to any meetings) and it worked for me. I hope you feel better...good luck as you try different things!

I would begin by drinking all the water that you can. The water will help flush out any yuckies that might be making you sick and you will have more energy. I found it really hard to exercise after I had Matthew until I found something that I like! I hate doing videos or anything that makes me feel silly and I'm not about to begin running anytime soon! So I got a cheap exercise bike from DI and would do that every day when the boys went to bed. To help motivate myself, I got a book that I really wanted to read and would only allow myself to read when I biked. I also did that with movies that I wanted to watch on netflix. Good luck and I know that it sounds silly but don't forget to pray for the motivation and help. God wants us to be happy and healthy and he will help if you ask.

I know you can do it! the other advice you've received is really good. Just start small, make simple changes. Try substituting healthy snacks for unhealthy ones. Try adding a little more exercise to your routine. Just by taking small steps you'll see a difference! My mom recently lost 15 pounds just by eating a lot less sugar and drinking less soda, and adding more green veggies to her diet. She has been overweight as long as I can remember and has never been successful before, but by sticking to her lifestyle changes she is making progess very quickly!
Good luck, you have a lot of people to support you. :)

YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!

Everyone previous left great comments. :) I agree with drinking LOTS of water. It will be frustrating (as in frequent bathroom trips) the first few days, but then your body will crave the water...but also make small changes in your snacking habits...and regular meals. (I should take my own advice! LOL!)

Have you thought about seeing a registered dietitian? My secretary at work started seeing one about 6 months ago (like you, she knew what she needed to do, but didn't know where to start, it was all so overwhelming) and she is looking really good. I don't know how much weight she lost, but basically got some great information, words of encouragement and motivation to make the changes she knew she needed...just a thought.

Keep it up...You're awesome, and You will get it figured out, I know!

My mid wife told me that some times our bodies are telling us thing like less dairy or no wheat. It takes 3 weeks to get dairy out of your system maybe you need to cut something out of your diet that is causing you have this aches
Also try to get on a good porting shake you are nursing and that is taking lots form you. now that the weather is nice challenge your self to walk around the block start with going around once and then move to twice and them maybe three times. you can play games with Carson like who can make it to the corner first speed walk and play little games to take you mind off working out. ABC games. color games. number games. it helps to take your mind off walking also get your self a good pair of shoes. the make the world of differences. all you have to do is start small and then before long you are doing it because it is fun. be happy and if you don't think you can be a skinny girl pull out you wedding pic and look at that skinny girl. you were fit and hot you can do it again. hang in there i wish i were there to walk with you it was so fun that summer walking and talking. we love you and you are in our prayers.

Wow, you've gotten lots of great advice. As far as the sickies go, I really feel you there. We've been consistently sick since Feb too. WHAT is it?
Don't get discouraged about your weight loss. You have to start somewhere and get a goal in mind. If you set goals for yourself, you'll find yourself pushing more. At least that's what I've found in training for this race next month.
I also agree about drinking tons of water. I also know you thought about getting a gym membership. I know it's hard to get there. If you need me to watch your boys for an hour a few days a week, I would be happy to.
That's also hard that you've had your share of health problems. Did you ever get on something to help with your ears?

I am sorry everyone has been sick!!!

I have recently joined Weight Watchers and LOVE IT!!! I have lost 13lbs in the last 5 weeks!! Now I have quite a bit of baby weight (yeah lets just call it that!) I won't ever be as skinny as I want, but might as well as start the process!! But I have just started to eat better, well eat less!!! So if you can I would HIGHLY recommend Weight Watchers!! (Also I think if I am going to spend the money I might as well stick to it!! It helps me stay to it!)

I can understand your aches and pains quite well. I have fibromyalgia. So take heart at least your aches WILL go away. You have three beautiful boys and soon with Mason moving around you will be RUNNING after them. I found the easiest way for me to exercise was to go outside and just follow Lexi around and play with her. I'm not one for plans, diets, or set exercise! That could be the reason I'm not at my ideal! But I'm okay and you will be too. It's hard right now, but your positive attitude will shine like it always has!

Yes, you can do it!!! I have been very discouraged/unmotivated to put any effort into losing my post-pregnancy weight. I say that the biggest thing, for me, is portion control. When I was sticking to my weight watchers diet I lost 15 pounds. I didn't really change what I ate, but mostly how MUCH I ate. I also suggest finding a buddy to chat with once a week about your food related successes and mishaps. If you need someone, maybe we can help motivate eachother!!!

I'm also trying to lose baby weight. I've got about 25 pounds to get back to pre-prego weight. Drink lots of water, makes you feel so much better. Make small changes, don't do anything too drastic and hard to follow because more than likely you won't keep up with for too long and then things will go back to what they were when you started the process. So just do things that are easy and that the rest of the family can do so it will be easier. Hang in there and realize it takes time. (I need to listen to my own advice). Oh yeah, you can go to mypyramid.org (I think) and there's a calorie tracker that you can keep track of everything that you ate during the day and see where you're at and see how to change things.
