Smog

Here is a view of the Wasatch Front from my balcony. This is normally a crystal clear view of these beautiful 11,000 ft tall mountains. Not so now....the haze that is obscuring them is smog. Growing up in Idaho I NEVER had to worry about smog and air quality. I had a perspective changing experience yesterday, when I took Jonas to his Pediatrician, whose office is located up on the bench in Draper. When we got up to the parking lot and looked over the valley there was this thick, black haze. It is so gross. Watching KSL last night, they said the smog is likely to stay until Tuesday and the air quality is only going to get worse. Utah County's air has been labeled "unhealthy" and Salt Lake County air is not far behind....

All this has given me a new perspective on "going green". I can see now why many Idahoans scoff at the idea....it doesn't really apply to them because they still have great air quality. But now I want to do something so my family and friends don't have to live and breathe in this.

Anyways, it is a beautifully sunny day today, but I don't know if I want to let the boys go play outside in this....perhaps we'll go the aquarium so we can stay indoors...but then again that requires us to drive and just add to the poor air quality.

***For those of you wondering, the home search is still going on. Our offer went in on Tuesday for the house in West Jordan, but it is a short sale so it could be weeks until we hear back...wish us luck!***

On the flip side, when we moved here from Chicago I couldn't believe how much a sunny day hurts your eyes!
